Light-Filled Modern Kitchen in a Historic Capitol Hill Rowhouse
Location
Washington, D.C.
Photography
Jared Kuzia
A small, typical kitchen in a Capitol Hill, Washington, DC Victorian row house was originally impractical, uninspired, narrow and crowded. Prioritizing practicality and playfulness, we turned a dated space into a quirky, nourishing haven – complete with a pegboard and matching step stool. We started with a very basic kitchen – white cabinets and black countertops – eager to introduce creativity and playfulness, as well as practical solutions, for this workhorse. Early in the design process, our client revealed she had always dreamt of a yellow kitchen, which we were happy to make a reality. We created a playful, sun-drenched kitchen against the backdrop of historic architecture with the crisp, color-forward functionality of a modern kitchen.
