An Immersive, High-Craft Retreat Hidden in the Hudson Valley

The house was bright white – inside and out – with large windows, and we made a completely blank, uninspiring modern build more inviting and intimate by adding sophisticated, deliberate material choices of saturated matte hues and soft textures to add instant heritage, warmth, and a high-end identity. The design is also an ode to nature and the beautiful countryside location: the custom fireplace surround was inspired by the tall woods behind the house, the powder room wallpaper features a rolling scene of a wilderness reserve, and we took full advantage of the home’s proximity to vintage shops, makers, and artists in the Hudson Valley and Washington, DC, where the client lives year-round.
